The county seat since 1888

Oneonta took over as the Blount County seat from Blountsville in 1888. It grew with the railroad, and its early tin-covered buildings earned it the nickname Tin City.^[2]

Blount County calls itself the Covered Bridge Capital of Alabama, with the Easley, Horton Mill and Swann bridges still standing, and the county’s farms are mostly cattle, poultry and eggs, with watermelons, strawberries, blueberries and peaches alongside.^[3,4]
